Sergeant Michael Lingard said that the stealing of a toolbox and the unlawful entry of a motor vehicle appear to have been opportunistic offences.

“The tool box was not secured and the vehicle was parked on the roadside and the car was not locked,” he said.

“In a perfect world you should not have to but people need to be very aware of their home, vehicle and property security 24/7.

“Make sure things are locked and secured and identifiable if they are stolen.

“Security cameras are great deterrents and capture perfect evidence.

“Lighting and sensor lights also deter offenders and a barking dog is also a great deterrent and warning system.”

Meanwhile, in an unrelated matter several chickens were killed in a dog attack in Goombungee.

Sergeant Lingard, as said he knew from experience, these were Council matters.

“As angry as it makes you when this sort of thing happens, it needs to be reported to council,” he said.
