Oakey Scouts visit Withcott for Abseiling Challenge
On Sunday the Oakey Scouts went to Withcott to meet with other Scouts from across the Region to participate in an abseiling activity.
We travelled out to Postman’s Ridge to be instructed and led by the Darling Downs Scouts Abseiling Team.
Safety instructions were given, and correct application and wearing of harness, related equipment, and helmet was next.
All youth members were very attentive and followed instruction to the letter.
It was a very big step for all Oakey members because none had ever participated in this activity before.
While some take to it like a duck to water, it is not so easy for others.
I am so proud of everyone for giving it a go!
Thank you to the wonderful abseiling team from Darling Downs Scouts for providing this opportunity for our young people and thank you to the Venturers and Rovers who assisted today.
Your time, effort and energy is much appreciated and greatly benefitted our Scouts.
The Scouts are busy refreshing skills and some are learning new things in preparation for Operation Nighthawk in August, including gyn lashing, and navigating.
Our next activity is our Winter Camp this coming weekend.
