Oakey Prayer Evening a success!
On Thursday 25th August an exciting collaboration between the Toowoomba Regional Council and the Churches of Oakey brought together a Mayoral Prayer Event entitled “Love our Youth – Our Heart, Our Future”.
Alongside Prayers for the community, families and the youth, the participants were addressed by several guest speakers, including the Federal Member for Groom Garth Hamilton, who spoke on the needs and potential of our youth, New Acland General Manager David O’Dwyer who spoke about why New Hope supports youth work in Oakey and of course Toowoomba Region Mayor Paul Antonio.
Guests were challenged by the panel of youth workers and young people who joined Pastor Ken Schultz for his “On the Couch with Ken” segment.
In addition, entertain-ment was provided by St Monica’s Choir and a group of singers from the Solomon Islands who are living and working in Oakey.
The meals were served by the Senior Hospitality Students of Oakey State High School under the direction of their teacher, Mrs Dianah Ray.
The students have been preparing the menu of finger foods, soup and sides and desserts for this event over the past few weeks.
Participants from Toowoomba and towns around Oakey joined Oakey residents to enjoy the night.
