After a late venue change, Oakey State High School parents and supporters were able to watch their sons play finals football in their home town at Trevor Mickelborough Oval last week.

Despite going down to Dalby High 30-4 in their Darling Downs South West Under 15 rugby league semi final last week, Oakey State High players could leave the field with their heads held high, following a bruising encounter watched by many friends and family.

The home side opened the scoring to take a four-nil lead early in the knockout encounter.

Oakey more than matched the Dalby juggernaut in the forwards with Benji McCarthy and the Jackson boys leading the way.

Ben Schmidt did some special things at special times in the game to keep the hope of victory alive.

Simon Collett was immense playing at five-eighth and never gave up.

Nor did the other 16 boys in the most successful Oakey High league side in the last decade.

Co-coaches Danny Keenan and Ethan Hearn were immensely proud of the team for all their efforts in season 2024 and look forward to taking the fight back up in 2025.

Mr Keenan thanked the Oakey Bears Senior Rugby League Club for the generous use of their facilities for some home games.

Oakey High also supplied the sideline officials, including touch judge Hannah Mundey.
