No upgrade for dangerous junction
Despite its danger, there are no plans to fix the site of many road vehicle crashes, the junction of the Gore Highway (Toowoomba - Athol Road) and Old Wyreema Road.

Member for Condamine Pat Weir recently received a response in Parliament from the Minister for Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Mike Bailey.
Mr Weir had asked if there will be any future funding allocated to improve the safety of this intersection, given its location on an incline and a bend, making a right hand turn dangerous with the large volume of traffic on the highway.
Mr Bailey said the Gore Highway (now Toowoomba–Athol Road) and Old Wyreema Road intersection was assessed for safety upgrades as part of a 2021 planning project.
“TMR’s planning did not recommend treatments to this intersection,” Mr Bailey said.
“TMR will continue to monitor the operation and safety of the Gore Highway and Old Wyreema Road intersection, however, has no plans to upgrade the intersection at this time.”
The most recent serious crash at the intersection occurred in July this year, which saw four people transported to Toowoomba Hospital following a two-vehicle crash, including two in a serious condition.
Another two-vehicle collision occurred in November last year.
