Newman Road closed
The section of Newman Road between the edge of Wyreema township and Drayton Connection Road is set to be closed for most of the rest of 2023 as work is underway.

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) commenced works this week on replacing a flood-damaged culvert.
TRC Infrastructure Services Group Portfolio Chair Cr Carol Taylor said the works were required to increase flood resilience.
“Works to replace the existing steel pipe culvert on Newman Road at Wyreema/Vale View will get underway this month (September) and are expected to be completed pre-Christmas, weather permitting,” Cr Taylor said.
“Replacing the steel pipe with an upgraded concrete box culvert will increase flood resilience at the site, minimising future damage from flooding events.
“Council needs to close Newman Road for the period of the works and detours will be in place.
“Council thanks the community for its patience during this time.”
The detour is through Toowoomba Karara Road, Shepperd Road and Drayton Connection Road.
Newman Road was closed for a few months early last year, also due to work on a flood-damaged culvert.
Those works took longer to complete than anticipated due to heavy rainfall and flood events.
The works at Newman Road, Wyreema/Vale View are part of TRC’s 2022 Flood Recovery Program which is jointly funded through the Commonwealth and State Governments.
