New Santa Gertrudis record sale
The Glenn Oaks stud of Nobby has again set an Australian record for the Santa Gertrudis breed, selling Glenn Oaks Sterling S314 for $175,000 at the Santa Central sale in Clifton recently.
Scott and Wendy Ferguson of Glenn Oaks sold the bull to Luke and Carly Baker, Annabranch, Wandoan and Neil and Rosalie Watson, Watasanta, Tamworth.
The bull was sold at the 17th annual Santa Central Sale at the Headingly Sale Complex.
Unsurprisingly, Mr Ferguson was pleased with the sale price.
“It was good to get that,” he said.
“It’s always a special surprise.”
The Fergusons are no strangers to setting records, with the Glenn Oaks stud setting a previous Santa Gertrudis record price in 2020 when they sold ‘Glen Oaks Palo’ for $126,000.
Mr Ferguson said aside from Sterling S314, the Santa Central sale as a whole was a success.
Buyers had come from far and wide, including Longreach, Wandoan, Thargomindah, Charters Towers and down into New South Wales.
“It’s good to get that commercial spread,” he said.
“The cattle market is very good for everyone at the moment.”
Mr Ferguson said the wetter than usual weather as of late made it a bit harder to get the bulls ready, although wet weather certainly is better than drought.
He added grain growers may disagree with that assessment.
The Santa Central organisers thanked the buyers for their confidence in Glenn Oaks genetics and were delighted that Sterling S313 has gone to such progressive studs.
According to Beef Central, the previous record price of $160,000 was set only two weeks beforehand for Riverina Roland Sanchez R88 sold by Rob and Lorraine Sinnamon, Riverina Santas, RL Pastoral Co to Clinton Wheatley, WA and NIOA Pastoral Co QLD at the inaugural RL Pastoral Co and NIOA Pastoral Santa sale held at Talgai Homestead.
