New highway servo a step closer

It appears that a proposed new service station on the New England Highway at Nobby is getting closer to becoming a reality.

An old service station on the site, just north of the highway junction with the Nobby Connection Road, had traded for many years as Steele Rudd’s Corner until it was acquired by United Petroleum for a reported $937,000 in April 2019.

The facility traded for a while under the United banner, but was closed within twelve months.

The company lodged a development application with Toowoomba Regional Council to enable it to build a new facility on the site.

The application was lodged in October 2019 and Council approval was given in July 2020.

Plans submitted for the development provide for a large service station including a general fuel forecourt as well as a large truck refuelling forecourt, along with a convenience store.

United Petroleum has now submitted a further application to the Council seeking permission to erect a series of signs at the site.

The application proposes a large pylon along with canopy and wall signs.

United proposes to operate the site 24 hours a day.
