New Acland accepting expressions of interest
New Acland Mine General Manager Dave O’Dwyer announced at a press conference last week that New Hope is now seeking expressions of interest from locals who would like to apply for a job if the mine is reopened.

Late last month, Queensland Minister for Resources Scott Stewart approved the mining lease for New Acland, meaning it is now only one step away from reopening.
The decision to reopen the mine now lies with the Chief Executive of the department administered by Queensland Minister for Water Glenn Butcher who must decide whether to grant the project an Associated Water Licence (AWL).
Mr O’Dwyer said the AWL will enable a restart of operations and employment opportunities for hundreds of local workers and suppliers.
“At the peak of construction, there will be close to 600 local workers on site at New Acland Mine,” he said.
“Throughout the life of the project, the permanent workforce will be approximately 400 full-time roles, made up of Darling Downs locals.”
Mr O’Dwyer said New Hope is now in the process of looking for local employees.
“Please visit the New Hope Group website and register your interest for a role at New Acland Mine,” he said.
“Once the project is underway, we’ll need truck drivers, engineers, electricians, operators, administration staff and mechanics.
“Unlike a lot of other mines in Queensland, New Acland Mine does not engage fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) workers, with more than 90 per cent of our previous workforce living within 50 kilometre radius of the site.
“Local businesses can also express their interest in supplying goods and services at New Acland Mine online.”
