Millmerran Landcare hosts koala information session

Millmerran Landcare hosted a koala information session on Saturday at the wildlife sanctuary, Wildlife Empire, on Millmerran-Inglewood Road.

Those who attended the information session were given insight into the preferred food and shelter species of koalas.

A number of fodder species include the narrow-leaved red iron-bark, Queensland blue gum, popular box, and Queensland peppermint.

Seasonal fodder includes popular gum, brushbox, swamp mahogany, and the paper bark tea tree.

Habitat species which koalas like to frequent for shade and safety are the Clarkson’s bloodwood, pink bloodwood, lemon scented gum and Moreton Bay ash.

Participants learnt how to spot the signs that koalas are present on a proprty, and how to care for the injured or sick animals.

The information session touched on how to increase  vegetation health to better protect and enhance all wildlife, including the much-loved Australian marsupial.
