Mill seeks to operate on public holidays

Ridley Agriproducts Pty Ltd has submitted a development application to Toowoomba Regional Council requesting approval to operate its Clifton mill on Public Holidays.

The application, submitted last Monday, requests a minor change to the application for the mill at 1 Mary Street, Clifton, approved in 2020.

A condition in that application was that the use must not occur on Public Holidays, except where the Public Holiday falls before a day that is not a Public Holiday, whereby it may operate from 10pm on the Public Holiday preceding the day that is not a Public Holiday.

On 23 May, prior to submitting the  requested change, submitted by Precinct Urban Planning on behalf of Ridley Agriproducts, written authorisation from Council had been sought for a request for temporary exemption from the need to comply with the condition precluding mill operations on public holidays.

“The basis of previous exemption requests relates to the unrealistic and problematic nature of this condition which precludes operations and essential daily deliveries to surrounding poultry farms and piggeries,” the application said.

“By emailed dated 31st May 2023, Council confirmed that the proposed changes to the Development Permit the subject of this submission needed to be formalised through a Change (Minor Change) Application.”

The proposed change requests that the requirement to cease operations on Public Holidays be changed on a temporary or a permanent basis.
