Men’s Shed gives Medical Centre a helping hand

Since the start of the year, members of the Oakey Men’s Shed have been fixing up items at the Ochre Medical Centres in Oakey and Kingsthorpe.

You might not notice it, but your local medical centre has been getting a helping hand.

Whether it’s the computer stand in Oakey’s main office, the hygiene racks in the doctor’s appointment room, or the kids chairs in Kingsthorpe, members of the Oakey Men’s Shed have been willing to assist.

Ochre Medical Centre Oakey’s Kerri Murray says a few of the men are patients at the practice.

“We’ve known them many years,” she said.

“They’re our handymen!

“I had a dual screen computer that wouldn’t fit and the Shed made one.”

Ochre’s Practice Manager Mel Hauswirth said the services the men provided were invaluable.

“They fixed the wheels on our trolleys,” she said.

“John (Greenhalgh) our man - him and Lex (Hudson), they take the stuff we don’t use.”

Do you have something that needs fixing? Visit the Shed at 1 Cory Street on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
