Berat local and Allora Swim Club member, Maeve Moore, excelled in the pool at the School Sport Australia 10-12 years Swimming Nationals held on the Gold Coast last week.

Maeve secured a spot on the Queensland Team for this event for her third year, qualifying for the 12years girls 50 metre freestyle at the Queensland Representative School Sport State Champs in March.

Swimming a new PB time of 29.02 in the heats on Saturday, placed Maeve 6th in a very competitive field of young swimmers and securing a spot in the 50 metre freestyle final.

She swam just under her PB to place 8th in the country in the finals.

Maeve then swam a cracking third leg of the 12years girls 4 x 50 metre freestyle relay in a time of 28.83 to move her team up into 2nd position, which they held to take out the silver medal.

With the Allora Pool closed for the winter months, Maeve has only been able to train twice a week with her coach, Andrew Fidge, at WIRAC.

She is looking forward to another great swimming season, with “Fidgey” returning to run the Allora pool which opens again in October.
