Pittsworth Police Senior Constable Stephen Johnson said the passenger’s side
of the cabin had taken the
full impact of the collision and was completely indented.

“I just don’t know how that passenger survived,” he said.

He also expressed frustration that the driver, aged 18, from Pittsworth, was recently disqualified from driving and initial investigations indicated that hooning may have been a factor in the crash.

“It’s incredibly frustrating for emergency services that young people continue to put theirs and other people’s lives in danger for a moment of perceived fun,”
Senior Const. Johnson said.

He appealed to young people to always take great care when they get behind the wheel.

“No matter how good a driver you may think you are, things do go wrong and in a vehicle they can go wrong very quickly,” he said.

The accident occurred shortly after 3pm on Weimers Road, near Droney Road and was attended by police, Queensland Fire,  Queensland Ambulance and a rescue helicopter that landed in a nearby field.

The driver, with minor injuries, was taken by road ambulance to hospital and the passenger, 19, from Southbrook, was airlifted to hospital with a suspected fractured pelvis.
