Loved ones remembered at twilight service
Almost 40 people attended the annual memorial service at twilight on Sunday in the grounds of the Pittsworth Cemetery.
The service was organised by Andrew Wilson, with assistance from Tash Roberts and Pastor Charlie Uebergang.
The theme of the evening was “Seasons” taken from the reading of Ecclesiastes 3:1-2: ‘There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot...’
“There are seasons in life that are significant to each one of us,” Pastor Uebergang said.
“It seems that apart from our own conversation, the common event that divides our past and future most conclusively is the death of someone we love.
“We could say that a cemetery or memorial headstone with a precious name on it is like a
large unavoidable signpost pointing in two directions.
“One, your past life with your loved one, and two, your future life without your loved one,” he said.
“In this country cemetery here in Pittsworth, we can escape the distraction of modern life and open our eyes to reality.
“You may even contemplate your own future, ‘what is life for me?’, ‘what is beyond our earthly life?’” he challenged.
The two songs played throughout the service were You Raise Me Up and In Christ Alone.
Father Pat, who was one of two brothers of the late Marie Mahoney from Sydney, said a prayer.
At the end of the service, a video was played with photos of people’s loved ones.
Photos can be added to the video at any time for next year’s service.
