Local young hockey players take step up
Five young hockey players from Toowoomba have been selected in an Australian Futures squad following their performance at the Australian National Under 18 tournament in Cairns during the Easter school holidays.

Tom Campbell from Mt Rascal and goalkeeper Dan Burge from Vale View, along with Oliver Harding and Will Ready (Toowoomba) were selected in addition to Savanah Trapp (Toowoomba) as members of the squad.
Australian National pathway selectors were present in Cairns and from the 10 male and 10 female teams (approximately 320 athletes), they selected an Australian Futures squad of 38 males and 38 females.
Hockey Australia says the pick of Australian male and female hockey Under 18 talent who will be at their peak to succeed at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games have been selected in the 2022 Men’s and Women’s Futures Squads.
The national identification scholarship pathway for which they were chosen is a performance-based, twelve month opportunity for those selected to be coached, mentored and guided by staff and athletes involved and appointed by Hockey Australia.
This will culminate in a week-long invitational camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
The selection of five players from the local region is an unprecedented representation of Toowoomba Hockey Junior talent, identified as potential future Australian players.
