Local Volunteer Heading To PNG
Well-known Allora identity Deirdre Williams (formerly a nurse) is looking forward to joining the YWAM team that is going to Papua New Guinea this weekend.
A ship loaded with goods and volunteers including medical people will leave from Townsville.
YWAM or Youth with a Mission takes urgently needed supplies to remote villages and offers primary health care.
Teams provide baby checks and childhood immunisations for children, family planning and antenatal care for women.
A typical clinic day may also cover a range of additional clinical care, including treatment of tropical diseases and respiratory illness, basic wound care, physiotherapy for soft-tissue injuries and therapeutic treatment and advice for individuals with disabilities.
YWAM is helping to impove the health and well-being of our close neighbours.
