On Friday afternoon, 23rd February, at Mt Peel Reserve, several local organisations competed for the Big Brass Boot and bragging rights at the first annual H2H Team Challenge.

This was a tough and exciting competition, where teams of up to four people had to hike through various terrains, overcome obstacles, and solve puzzles along the way.

Competitors showed great teamwork, endurance, and creativity in this challenge.

The H2H Team Challenge is a new event from Hike to Heal Australia, a not-for-profit suicide prevention organisation that inspires communities to strengthen well-being while walking beside people dealing with mental ill health and suicide loss towards hope, healing and connection.

The event aims to promote the benefits of hiking for mental health, as well as raise funds and awareness for the cause.

While the competition was fierce, it was friendly and all teams demonstrated a passion for making a difference in our community, a spirit of adventure, and a great sense of fun.

The ladies from Triple M took out the trophy completing all the clues in an enviable time of 53 minutes, closely followed by Mayor Geoff McDonald’s TRC Team, and Heritage Bank Team.

The three judges, Don Carlson (Toowoomba Bushwalker’s President), Suzie Holt (4Groom) and Jen Rahder (Primary School Teacher), who volunteered their time and expertise to evaluate the team performance, were fair, impartial, and supportive throughout the challenge.

They selected the Heritage Bank Team’s short video promo – with the tag line “Hike Mt Peel and the better you’ll feel” as the winner of the Mental Health slogan.

Funds raised from the event will provide support for the well-being programs being offered by Momentum Mental Health, a local organisation that provides mentoring and support for people experiencing mental health issues.

Jim Barton, President of Hike to Heal Australia, said the event was only possible with the support of the community and said he would like to thank all the participants, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who made this event possible and successful.

He said he hoped to see everyone again next year for another H2H Team Challenge.
