Local pub does its bit for Hospice

The local pub at Greenmount, which sports the unusual name Get Chopped, threw its hat into the ring to help raise funds for the Toowoomba Hospice during this year’s Hang Ya Boss Out To Dry event.

Publican Brendon Quirey  volunteered to be hoisted skywards and became part of a highly successful event for 2024.

Hospice Fundraising and Events Coordinator Amy Goldsmid is delighted with the response.

“We were asking employees from businesses on the Darling Downs to ‘Hang their boss out to dry’ by placing them in a scissor lift/cherry picker and raising it up in the air and then the boss had to raise a minimum of $5,000 from up in there by ringing anyone they wanted so they could be let back down, I pleased to say everyone came back to earth so-to speak!” Ms Goldsmid said.

Hospice Business Manager Mr Mark Munro said this year was the twelfth year the Hospice has held Hang Ya Boss Out To Dry and with just over $507,000 being raised over the previous 11 years organisers were hoping to raise $100,000 to beat the $88,823 which was the highest amount raised in 2014. And 2024 is the year that this was achieved.

“We raised $110,525.35 and Joe Wagner from Wagner Corporation Pty Ltd was the highest fundraiser,” Mr Munro said.

The Toowoomba Hospice has cared for over 2,000 clients over the last 21 years with the highest standard of care been given to all, however, to maintain this level of support, it relies on the financial assistance of the community to fund an operating budget of $2.36 million dollars per annum.

Newlands hosted Hang Ya Boss Out To Dry this year at their Toowoomba Offices in Anne street.

“The location was prime and the amount of traffic that went past and saw the event was enormous with people hearing it on the radio we could have asked for a better place to be,” Ms Goldsmid said.

The Toowoomba Hospice is located at 57B O’Quinn Street Harristown, and those  interested in knowing more about its service can call 4659 8500 or visit the website www.toowoombahospice.org.au
