Local nan visits the big smoke

Local Oakey grandmother Beryl Achilles made the trip to Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium to watch granddaughter Shenae Ciesiolka play for Queensland against New South Wales in the first of three Women’s State of Origin matches.

It was a bittersweet night for Shenae, whose Queensland side was outrun by a keen New South Wales outfit.

The Blues side took the first game of the 2024 State of Origin series 22-12 in front of a record crowd at “The Cauldron”.

Disappointingly, the game clashed with the semi-finals of the BMD Premiership, which saw the Clydesdales knocked out in Mackay.

Beryl’s other football-playing granddaughter Jada Ferguson had a win for the Norths Devils and will play in the Grand Final.
