Local Lions pride receives accolades

Recently, many local Clifton Lions were recognised at the Lions 201Q3 Changeover for service given to their community and Lions International.

Immediate Past President Andrew Highet, Treasurer Cathy Highet, Christmas Cakes and Mints Chairman Peter Bisdee, all received the District Governor’s Certificate of Appreciation and the Council Chair Vin Pang Medal.

Andrew, who operates a free computer and smart devices help club to Clifton and surrounding area residents (including home visits when required) along with his wife Cathy were instrumental in starting Bingo locally twice a month.

They have been a great addition to our town and area in the two and a half years they have been in the community and Lions’ members.

Andrew, Cathy and Peter Bisdee were also very heavily involved in the organisation and running of the 2023 201Q3 at Millmerran in October last year.

Peter Bisdee is the “behind the scenes guy” for Clifton Lions.

This quiet achiever looks after Christmas Cake orders and distribution which, in peak season, could see him delivering cakes from Greenmount to Allora, Felton and Leyburn and of course Clifton, as well as monthly sales of the famous Lions’ mints.

Peter also keeps an eye on the gardens at O. B. Bell Park with watering, weeding and plant replacement when required.

Maryann Bisdee received the Ian Frazer Humanitarian award for her outstanding service to the Lions clubs in 201Q3 Zone 4.

These include Pittsworth, Millmerran, Clifton, Oakey and Westbrook in her three years as Zone Chair.

During this time Maryann held the Clifton Club President’s role for one year and was Clifton Club Secretary for two years.

She also was chairperson of the successful organisation and running committee for the Millmerran convention.

All these members are heavily involved (along with the remainder of the Clifton club) in all local community service projects including Australia Day, Anzac Day, Clifton Country Week  as well as the Leyburn Sprints, Clifton Show and Clifton Races gate keeping.

Great work and a huge congratulations to all!
