Local artist's solo show

Cheryl Fowler recalls almost walking out of her first art class but a decade on, her work speaks for itself.

The Pittsworth artist well remembers her first art class.

“I almost quit on that first day.. we were painting leaves and I thought there’s no way I was ever going to do it,” she said.

But Cheryl persevered and over time grew to love the challenge of every new watercolour she started.

There have been many paintings since, including those for which she has won prizes at regional shows and exhibitions in Toowoomba.

“Every painting is a challenge,” she says.

Cheryl paints only in watercolours and enjoys scenery and floral works but is also tackling some more abstract work at the moment.

She was particularly inspired by a trip to Spain in 2017.

Cheryl is president of the Pittsworth Art Group which will have its Annual Members Exhibition in September with the opening night on September  9.

In the meantime, several of her paintings are on show at the Millmerran Arts Council’s Kenneth Macqueen Foyer Gallery in the Millmerran Library.

Most of the work is also for sale.

Cheryl’s solo exhibition runs until the end of July and the gallery is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
