Living link with Pardey past visits Pittsworth
Among a number of special visitors to the Herbert John Pardey photographic exhibition on the weekend was one with a blood connection to the photographer.
Sandgate retiree Guy Richard Pardey is the great grandson of Herbert John Pardey, the now celebrated chronicler of life and events in Pittsworth in the early 20th century.
Guy’s grandfather, Leonard, was born in Pittsworth in 1908, early in the decade when his parents Herbert and Susan lived and worked here, before moving to Cowra.
Guy said Leonard was not as involved in the Pardey Studio at Cowra as the other siblings George and Eileen, who continued to operate the business until the 1970s.
Mr Pardey said he doesn’t have a great deal of information about his great grandfather and didn’t realise he had lived in Pittsworth until news of this exhibition spread.
He has however been able to provide History Pittsworth with photos of Herbert Pardey at different ages.
Mr Pardey said his sister Susan, who lives near Orange in NSW, is the family’s historian and she will be visiting Pittsworth in the coming week.
Hopefully her visit will provide more glimpses into the life and work of Herbert John Pardey.
Meanwhile, History Pittsworth is encouraging local and former residents to visit the exhibition and help identify people and places in the images.
Already, a number of people have been able to help mightily in this regard.
The exhibition is open this week and next on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 3pm.
