Light horse event salutes war history
Light horsemen and women came from around Queensland and New South Wales to compete in the Queensland Mounted Infantry Challenge at Pittsworth Showgrounds over the weekend and what a show it was.
In all, nine different events including the fiercely contested Dismount in Action Cup, were held on Saturday before a grand parade on Sunday which included members of the Pittsworth RSL Sub-branch, Pittsworth Cadets and the Toowoomba Caledonian Society Pipe Band.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Paul Antonio gave a speech.
The Queensland Mounted Infantry Challenge was hosted by the 11th Light Horse Darling Downs regiment, an historical re-enactment unit which honours the skills and ethos of the Australian Light Horse.
More than 30 riders and 10 ground staff were involved with two judges from the Australian Light Horse Association and two senior 2nd 14th officers from Enoggera Army Base presenting trophies.
Individual winner was Wayne Mills from Guyra, NSW, and runner-up Queensland’s Peta Burgess who also won the inaugural Horsemanship Award donated by Wywurri Catering.
Overall section winners were Mt Morgan troop with Darling Downs teams 2 and 1 finishing second and third respectively.
The Dismount for Action Cup was won by Darling Downs number 1 team.
