Life’s great as an under 8
Excited students under the age of eight from our local schools gathered at Clifton State School earlier this term for some serious learning through fun games and socialising, all under the eyes of proud parents and hard working teachers.
While there was plenty of fun on offer during the day there was also a serious educational and socialisation theme taking place.
Students had the chance to interact with police as topics such as road safety were discussed while at the same time allowing students to feel comfortable in the presence of police officers.
Naturally the chance to sit in the driver’s seat of a real police car was a major hit with students.
Ambulance officers were also introduced and again students had a positive experience as instruction on how to react in an emergency was explained.
There is no doubt many young children would have come away from the day with new positive attitudes regarding the public servants in our society charged with protecting and helping us.
Judging by the excitement of students when given a skipping rope, the perennial skill of skipping is still alive as students turned the tennis court into a skip-a-thon.
Some parents and teachers joined in the fun displaying they had lost none of the skipping skills they learnt at school many years ago.
Throughout the day groups of students moved from one activity to another in what was a masterclass of organisation by teachers and staff of the various schools attending.
Participating were the state schools from Clifton, Nobby, Greenmount, Allora, Pilton, Back Plains, Leyburn and Emu Creek, St Patrick’s Allora, St. Francis de Sales Clifton and Treasure Island, as well as playgroups from the schools.
The Under Eights Day was a huge success on many levels and a credit to all those who helped in the organising and running of the day.
