Leyburn QCWA centenary celebrations a blast

The QCWA Leyburn Branch is now looking back on last week’s celebrations with just a little smile on their face due to the huge success of two recent events.

The Sunday afternoon open day brought in around 40 guests, taking time
to look around at the memorabilia and enjoy some CWA home cooked afternoon tea.

Then on Tuesday the celebrations continued with 75 special guests attending the formal luncheon catered by the local Royal Hotel in the beautifully decorated hall.

Attendees included the  QCWA State Committee traveling from Brisbane and the Border Division Committee, along with representatives from the Southern Downs Regional Council and a quick drop in from our Member for Southern Downs Mr. James Lister.

Most of our 16 Division Branches were  represented along with many past members young and old, all enjoying the catch up and laughing at the many antics they used to enjoy like the cross-dress ball or the Vegemite skit, then looking around the hall seeing new upgrades.

Fancy having an office as well as a second kitchen!

TV screens showed a rotation of all photos of both past and present for all to view throughout the afternoon.

Letters of congratulations were read and Tricia Chant spoke on behalf on the community.

The privilege of cutting of the cake was given to our current longest serving member Mary Hamblin along with our oldest attending member Alexis McCarthy.

Thank you gifts were handed out and now we see what the new year brings for this small but strong group of ladies.

But for now, we rest for few days then many branches get on a bus and head to Mackay for a QCWA State Conference.

Who knows what we will debate on this year!

- Sheryle Weiden, Leyburn QCWA President
