Latest Mort & Co award proves 'strength to grow'
Mort & Co CEO Stephen O'Brien says the company's recent Regional Exporter of the Year Award for Queensland proved the company had the strength to grow in the most difficult of climates.

With hauling and truck servicing bases in Pittsworth and feedlots at Millmerran and Dalby, Mort & Co received the accolade at the State Export Awards on October 5.
Mr O’Brien said the awards acknowledged an incredible expansion in exports out of Queensland, doubling the previous year’s figures to bring the value to $123 billion, despite the pressures of an unstable global economy.
He said the past year had thrown up many challenges.
“The Meat and Livestock industry, in particular, has faced new pressures with outbreaks of Foot and Mouth and Lumpy Skin Disease in Indonesia, along with the continuing risks associated with exporting during a global pandemic.
“We stand alongside the export businesses here this evening, stronger, more ambitious, and innovative than ever before.”
Mr O’Brien congratulated the many businesses at the prestigious awards, particularly those who shone a light on regional Queensland.
“Family owned Bundaberg Brewed Drinks took the gong of the night, as the Queensland Exporter of the year.
“It was a privilege to be standing alongside regional businesses that have started off with a family venture, just like Mort & Co, and are now on the global stage.
“It is essential that our regional businesses are given the same exposure and opportunities as the metropolitan counterparts...” he said, adding that the awards night has proven that regional communities were the “beating heart of the State”.
Mort & Co executive chairman Charlie Mort, said the award reflected the hard work and dedication applied by Mort & Co’s almost 300 staff.
“Our people are the reason Mort & Co continues to thrive and grow, with the addition of several complimentary businesses.”
Mort & Co is now a contender as Regional Exporter in the National Export Awards to be announced in November.
