Spartan obstacle races are a test of endurance and strength fitness with the Super event incorporating 25 obstacles in a 10km run while the Sprint race is over 6.5 km with 20 obstacles.

Obstacles include monkey bars, rope climbs, A-frame climbs and creek crossings all designed to test the fitness of competitors.

The Gold Coast’s Numinbah Valley was a perfect location for the event providing pristine rainforests, cascading waterfalls, and rugged mountain landscapes, making  this the perfect backdrop for a weekend adventure.

Karen Bischof is no stranger to the event in which she first competed seven years ago when she entered just for a bit of fun but loved it and decided to compete on a more serious level.

Obviously her occupation as a Pilates Instructor in Cambooya and Clifton is a huge advantage in attaining a winning fitness level but Karen adds extra training to her weekly exercise program.

Travelling to Toowoomba two or three times a week, Karen enjoys CrossFit Gym training which  involves weights, running and rope work, all performed at high intensity level.

Karen also includes a 10km and 5km run each week.

She said she likes the challenge of Spartan events and while  winning is nice she enjoys training for the events even more.

Running the 10km of the Super event in one hour and  thirty-three minutes, Karen backed up for the 6.5km Sprint event just three hours later, winning both races.

Apart from her group pilates sessions at Clifton on  Mondays and Wednesdays and Cambooya on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Karen conducts private sessions from her East Greenmount home and can be contacted on 0409 489 469.
