Junior Danes present end of season awards

Pittsworth and District Junior Rugby League (PJDRL) held its presentation night recently, looking back on the 2024 season which saw the Under 17 Girls team into the Toowoomba Rugby League Grand Final. Players, coaches, referees and staff were recognised and thanked by the committee for their unwavering support over the season.

Club Trophies

The Player of the Year for 2024 was Angela Robertson, whose respectful manner toward teammates, coaches, referees and opponents, good sportsmanship, and encouragement to fellow players, saw her receive the Pittsworth Leagues Club perpetual trophy.

Club Service Awards were gifted to Will Hanlon, Aiden Burke, Anthony Lonergan, Ben Wilson, Summer Facer and Shenaye Barbeler for having played for the club since Under 9s (or in the girls’ case, for six years).

Heidi Sanders received the Club Encouragement Award, Ty Erickson received the Most Determined Effort, and Will Hanlon received the Club Commitment Award.

Referees and Touch Judges were acknowledged: Hannah Schultz, Lachlan Thompson, Nicole Robertson, Zane Friedrichs, Nick Duncombe, Will Hanlon, Aidan Burke, Ange Robertson, Heidi Thompson, Isabelle Duncombe, Max Ruhle, Jack Ruhle, Harry O’Sullivan, Logan Anderson, John Robertson.

The Under 15 girls side, which just missed out on making it into the Grand Final after receiving a second chance to play in the semis, received the award for Best Team.

Team Person of the Year was given to Nick Duncombe for his encouragement to others, good sportsmanship, respectful manner, consistent training, and enthusiasm on the field.

Junior Club Person of the Year was awarded to Noah Trott, and Club Person of the Year was awarded to Darren Ericksen.

The Team of the Year, selected by the coaches, was Ella Hollis, Isabelle Duncombe, Ty Ericksen, Will Hanlon, Angie Robertson, Tyson Moore, Aidan Burke, Ethan Altadonna, Arizona Veca, Anthony Lonergan, Skyhe Klein, Ethan Burgess, Bindi Geiger, Mason Fletcher, Chloe Thompson, Bridie Sutton and Sally Clifford.   

Michael Fletcher received the Markey Family perpetual trophy for Coach of the Year.

2024 Club Captains Will Hanlon and Aiden Burke presented the 2025 Club Captains, Tyson Moore and Orla Balmain, with their shirts.

Team Trophies

All of the  Under 6, 7 and 8 teams received trophies.

Under 9

Alfie Reynolds received the award for Top Tackler.

Under 10

The Encouragement Award was given to Hunter Wiedman who received the Harry Trott MEM perpetual trophy.

Most Improved Player was given to Archie Humphrey, Most Consistent Forward to Lucas Lord, Most Consistent Back to Brodie Trott, Best Defensive Player to Nate Sinclair, and Best and Fairest to Jed Fiechtner.

Under 11

The Most Improved Player was Lock Connolly who received the Frank Gardner MEM perpetual trophy.

The Encouragement Award went to Darcy Gersekowski, Most Consistent Forward to Dane Sutton, Most Consistent Back to Hamish Plath; Best Defensive Player to Ryan Suell, and Best and Fairest to George Smith.

Under 12

The Most Improved was Darcy Richardson who received the Trevor Hintz perpetual trophy.    

The Encouragement Award went to Tuff Collins, Most Consistent Forward to Hunter Humphrey, Most Consistent Back to Archer Bauer, and Best Defensive Player went to Harry Duncombe.

Nate Williams received the Brett Kahler MEM perpetual trophy for Best and Fairest.

Under 13 Girls

The Encouragement Award went to Kyanna Laine, Most Improved Player to Matilda Berghauser, Most Consistent Forward to Zahlar Sims, Most Consistent Back to Skyhe Klein, and Best Defensive Player to Heidi Sanders.

Bindi Geiger received the Mary Smith perpetual trophy for Best and Fairest.

Under 13

The Most Improved was James Gillam who received the Max Faux MEM perpetual trophy.

The Encouragement Award went to Austin Shawe, Most Consistent Forward to Mason Fletcher, Most Consistent Back to Riley Suell, and Best Defensive Player to Archie Polzin.

Best and Fairest went to Jed Vonhoff who received the Gary Baker MEM perpetual trophy.

Under 14

The Encouragement Award went to Rohan Balmain who received the Brendan Wilson MEM perpetual trophy.

The Condamine Clothing perpetual trophy went to Duke MacDonald for Most Improved, and Most Consistent Back was Ty Erickson who received the Marc Griffiths MEM perpetual trophy.    

The Most Consistent Forward went to Johnny Robertson, Best Defensive Player to Lincoln Mason, and Best and Fairest to Nate Bradford.

Under 15 Girls

The Encouragement Award went to Tahlia Zehnder, Most Improved Player to Madison Bennett, Most Consistent Forward to Sally Clifford, Most Consistent Back to Boe Kirby, and Best Defensive Player to Arizona Vecca.

Isabelle Duncombe received the Susan Trott perpetual trophy for Best and Fairest.

Under 15/16 DC

The Encouragement Award was presented to Zander Smith, Most Consistent Forward to Lachlan Folker, Most Consistent Back to Jock Bradford, Best Defensive Player to Ryle Fiechtner, and Best and Fairest to Jack Ruhle.

Most Improved Player was Joel Van Dongen who received the Lanson Family perpetual trophy.

Under 17 Girls

The Encouragement Award was given to Summer Facer, Most Improved Player to Brooke Bennett, Most Consistent Forward to Chloe Thompson, Most Consistent Back to Orla Balmain, and Best Defensive Player to Angela Robertson.

Best and Fairest was awarded to Ella Hollis who received the Carolyn Kahler perpetual trophy.

Under 17

The Encouragement Award was presented to Josh Talbot, Most Improved Player to Cody Ayres, Most Consistent Forward to Aiden Burke, Most Consistent Back to Tyson Moore, Best Defensive Player to AJ Lonergan, and Best and Fairest to William Hanlon.

All those from Under 17s who played their last season with the Junior Danes were also acknowledged.

They were Seagrott, Rivett, Hanlon, Talbot, Reen, Friedrichs, Altadonna, Wilson, Burke, Christiansen and O’Toolie.
