Introducing The New Leader Of The National Party - David Littleproud

At a party room ballot on Monday, Member for Maranoa and Deputy Leader of the Nationals David Littleproud was elected as the Leader after defeating Barnaby Joyce and Darren Chester.

Mr Littleproud was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2016 replacing long-standing member for Maranoa Bruce Scott.

Joining the National Party as a six-year-old boy David followed in the footsteps of his father Brian who served in the Queensland State Parliament as the member for Condamine and later Western Downs from 1983 to 2001.

Maranoa is the largest electorate in Queensland - with an area of 729,897 square kilometres or 42.2% of the State.

Mr Littleproud has held a number of rural related portfolios with the most recent being Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia until the Coalition lost the Election last month.

NSW Senator Perin Davey who lives near Deniliquin was elected deputy leader.
