History abounds in Allora
At the end of Term 1, early years students from St Patrick’s School visited the local Allora Museums.

We were greeted by local historians, Jim and Kaye, who volunteered their time so history buffs young and old could understand a past way of life. This excursion allowed students to make connections with the way life used to be and compare it to the way it is now. Having the opportunity to explore artefacts enabled us to make links with what the students had been learning at school.
St Patrick’s students asked wonderful questions and were intrigued with the answers of a bygone era. We all decided that if you get the opportunity to visit the Allora museums on their open days, it is worth the trip to discover where our beautiful town of Allora and surrounds originated. Some student reflections are provided for your enjoyment.
Today we went to two museums in Allora. First, we saw a lot of mannequins, they were dressed in olden day clothes. Then we saw a typewriter, they are used for typing. Next, we saw an old classroom, they had wooden desks and chairs. We also saw old cars, they had lots of missing paint. Then we saw a huge windmill, it was rusty and laying on the ground. We also saw a seeder; it was used to put seeds in the ground. We also saw an old crib that rocked. Mrs. H and I found a skull (The Talgai Skull) it was black with white teeth. We saw an old shaver and lots of the tops of them were rusty. After, we saw a little perfume bottle. Lastly, we saw a place where war people died, it is called a war memorial. (Poppy)
Today we went to the Allora Museum. We looked at olden day artefacts. Then we looked at olden day stuff including an old printer, wool table, and wool press. Next, we discovered women’s underwear, it was hugely different from now. Lastly, we found old classrooms, they were little and did not have air conditioners. We found a one-hundred-year-old piano.
