Highway upgrade sites in Hodgson Vale
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has shed light on the specifics of the future upgrades to the New England Highway at Hodgson Vale.
A TMR spokesperson said low-cost, high-benefit safety treatments are being undertaken at several sites on the New England Highway over the next two years.
“The improvements, to be installed at multiple sites between Nelson Street and Greenmount-Etonvale Road intersections, include batter flattening, new guardrail, wide centre lines, audio tactile line-marking and signs.
“The locations and treatments are chosen based on crash history and identified high-risk sites,” the spokesperson said.
The combined $2.987 million projects include design and works over the next two financial years and are funded under the Queensland Government’s Safer Roads Sooner Program.
A separate allocation of $11.5 million will be spent on the New England Highway between James and Nelson Streets in Toowoomba.
In 2021/22, $1.5 million will be spent on the Toowoomba project and $10 million will be spent in 2022/23.
TMR has also invited the community to have its say on the future of another stretch of the New England Highway, between Cambooya Connection Road and Greenmount Connection Road.
