Helicopter airlifts patient after Allora crash
A male was airlifted to hospital and another person transported via ambulance after a two-vehicle crash on the New England Highway at Allora this afternoon.
Emergency services were alerted to a crash at the intersection of the New England Highway and Jonel Park Road at 1.26pm.
Multiple Queensland Police, Queensland Ambulance Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews were at the scene.
A male in his 30s was airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane via Westpac Rescue Helicopter, a second male transported to hospital via ambulance and a third declined transportation.
At the scene, Sergeant Damian Grace of Allora Police said although the investigation into the crash will continue, it appears a vehicle heading south towards Allora collided with another vehicle turning back onto the highway.
Shortly after the crash, a fleet of army vehicles that were filled with drivers under instruction happened to come past and assisted.
"The army were exceptional. They stopped, they took control and actually assisted with the two injured," Sergeant Grace said.
"There were paramedics on board and they certainly took control until the ambulance arrived."
Sergeant Grace said the occupants of both vehicles were lucky to be alive.
The New England Highway is closed to all traffic in both directions and police are directing motorists to take alternate routes.
