Happy birthday Victoria Hill QCWA

A good time was had by many on Saturday as 71 people attended a day of festivities celebrating the 60th anniversary of Victoria Hill Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA).

Shirley Erhardt, who has been a member of Victoria Hill QCWA for 55 years, said the 60th anniversary celebration was a wonderful day.

Mrs Erhardt’s highlight of the day was seeing many past members who had been driven from Toowoomba by their daughters to be there on the day.

“It was great seeing past members and we could rekindle past friendships,” Mrs Erhardt said.

The events on the day included a slide show of photos depicting the last 60 years at Victoria Hill QCWA, which brought up a lot of cherished memories for those in attendance.

Morning tea was had as well as a catered lunch, topped off with a toast of champagne.

The minutes of the first meeting of the Victoria Hill QCWA from 1961 were read out.

This was especially poignant for Annette Frizzell, the only foundation member in attendance.

Mrs Erhardt said the anniversary event was on the heels of good news that the organisation has had recently.

“We were down to six members so we were in the process of closing, but we got four new members,” she said.

The continued operation of Victoria Hill QCWA is welcome news for Mrs Erhardt and her fellow members, as well as for everyone else in attendance.
