Greenmount Billy Cart Challenge Gears Up for Second Year

Excitement is building in Greenmount as the community prepares for the second annual Greenmount Billy Cart Challenge, set to take place just three weeks away on November 23.

Last year’s Greenmount Billy Cart Challenge attracted creative billy carts and a large crowd.
Last year’s Greenmount Billy Cart Challenge attracted creative billy carts and a large crowd.

Last year’s event, which won Event of the Year at the Cambooya Australia Day awards, was a massive success and touted as the region’s best new tourist event.

The event drew over 70 competitors from all parts of Queensland and New South Wales with hundreds of spectators to watch all the thrills and spills.

This year, the event promises to be even bigger, with expectations of double the turnout.

The streets of Greenmount will be closed, allowing participants to race their billy carts down the steep main street, Ramsey Street. The event is family-friendly; offering a junior track for kids aged 6-12, alongside the open seniors track for the more experienced racers. Spectators can enjoy the fun for free, with races kicking off at 10am.

A wide variety of billy carts is expected, from $50 DIY builds to highly engineered, themed carts costing thousands.

Once the racing wraps up, the fun continues with an after-party at the Get Chopped Pub, featuring the live band Remedy playing Aussie pub classics.

Organised by Get Chopped Community Events Inc., led by President Tricia Chant, the event will also include food vendors, entertainment for kids, and plenty of family fun - not to mention the epic after party.
