Grants for Boodua Hall and Oakey Golf Course
Grants will be provided from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund to rectify flood damage at Oakey Golf Club and to upgrade one of the Rosalie district’s most historic halls.
After last year’s flooding, the Oakey Golf Club is taking steps to shorten the clean-up time.
The Club’s $19,837 grant will go towards maintenance equipment and includes a McCormack 4 in 1 accessory, which will make it easier to maintain and repair the course in the event of heavy flooding.
Meanwhile, the historic Boodua Hall will finally receive a long-awaited fence, which will help the site become child-secure.
The facility is located on the western side of the busy Kingsthorpe-Haden Road and was previously open to the road during events.
The Boodua Hall currently runs two or three events a year, with at least one barbecue and is used occasionally as a venue for birthdays.
Last year, the annual fund-raising event consisted of a comedy routine with a Dominos pizza.
Hall President Vivienne Bullock says the $33,827 upgrades would improve the usability of the site.
“We had a hundred people and it’s a great place to catch up with people in the community who you wouldn’t normally see,” she said.
Ms Bullock said it is hoped the success of the grant would attract more bookings for the site and more committee members.
“The hall’s not dead and we’re always looking for new members on the committee to help us put on more events,” she said.
