This airfield was first opened in 1932 and has been the base for the Lone Eagle Flying School since 2002.

During the past ‘wet’ months the ability to maintain the airfield has been seriously restricted highlighting the ongoing safety issues for pilots.

Due to the various logistics around airfield maintenance, hand-held equipment was
needed to adequately maintain the areas around the airfield for safety issues in aircraft navigation and for the ongoing use of the airfield by visiting pilots and emergency services.

Treasurer Trevor Bange said the Darling Downs Sport Aircraft Association appreciates the ongoing support from the Clifton community organisations, businesses and emergency services and the national Recreational Aviation Australia for their support during  the application process for this grant.
