Goombungee icon farewelled at Douglas Cemetery
Former Goombungee resident Faith Briggs, who served as the town lollipop lady for 30 years, was farewelled with a funeral service at the Douglas Cemetery yesterday (Monday 4th November).
Faith had passed away in Oakey recently after a period of poor health.
She was very involved in the Goombungee Lutheran Ladies Guild (now Lutheran Women) and was a dedicated member of the QCWA Goombungee Branch, holding positions including President, Vice President and Treasurer.
She was also heavily involved in the Rosalie Shire Historical Society.
Society President Denise Iseppi said Faith was a kind and caring soul,
“Faith was a driving force of the Rosalie Shire Historical Society holding the position of Secretary where the production of our newsletter began,” she said.
“Faith’s guidance to new members was hinged on the importance of the history of the Rosalie Shire.
“Faith was awarded life membership at the Society’s 25th Anniversary in 2018.
“Faith loved writing and there are many examples of poems, notes and history that we can treasure at the Museum in memory of this wonderful lady.”
“Faith loved a visit and the odd rose to brighten her day. Faith, you have left a mark on our lives that we will always treasure.”
She retired from being a lollipop lady at the age of 82.
