Pittsworth Golf Club Patron Katherine ‘Tibby’ Sullivan remembers well the first time she played.

“It was late on a Sunday afternoon, my elder brother took me out and I thought I was looking quite good in my Bermuda shorts and long socks but someone came running out of the club house to tell me I couldn’t play dressed like that... if only she could see what they’re wearing today!”

Play she did that momentous day and, like so many, Tibby was immediately hooked.

She’s been playing for most of the six decades since.

Tibby competed in the annual Legacy Day tournament last Tuesday, Anzac Day, which is an event she won 60 years ago.

As Club Patron she also presented the Legacy Cup trophies to the winners Nick Degnian and Mary Turvey.

Tibby’s is a golfing family - her grandson Darcy won the Calloway on the day.

“He’s off to play cricket in England,”Tibby said.

“I don’t know why he likes cricket so much because he’s a really good golfer.”

Tibby praised sponsors the Stirling family as pioneers and stalwarts of the club.

She said while her handicap is “about 20 more than it used to be” she still enjoys the sport.

“I’m still in the game and I’m still competitive.”

Results from the day can be found in the Pittsworth Sentinel print edition of May 4, 3023.
