Gladfield Driver Reviver May Not Close
Last month the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) regional director Adam Ainsworth said all 23 government-owned sites will close following a safety assessment and the investment required to keep the network operating with a lot of the buildings no longer safe for travellers or volunteers.
Last Friday Member for Southern Downs James Lister MP and a group of concerned volunteers and media met at the Gladfield Driver Reviver site which was one of the sites due to be closed by the Department of Main Roads.
It appears, based on news reports, that the Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey MP has backed off from definitely closing Gladfield and now says that the future for the Gladfield site has not yet been determined.
However, Mr Lister is still on the case for the site to remain operating -
“The Gladfield site is the best Driver Reviver you’ll find anywhere, and I think it does great work in keeping down the number of fatigue related road deaths.
“The proud volunteers who staff it just want the Palaszczuk Government to get out of their way and let them do what they do best – providing a friendly cuppa to weary travellers and in the process, saving lives.
“I will continue to work with the community to fight this bad decision to close our driver reviver, and I encourage everyone to sign the parliamentary petition which is on my Facebook page James Lister MP – Member for Southern Downs,” Mr Lister said.
