Get into the Christmas spirit with the Oakey community tree
The Oakey community Christmas tree is now up in front of the Oakey Cultural Centre with local residents encouraged to decorate the locally-made structure in time for December 25.
The tree was constructed last year by the Oakey Men’s Shed as a way to build community spirit and usher in the festive season.
Currently the tree is only dressed with fairy lights, and it is up to local residents to make it their own and decorate the tree.
The Oakey Library has free baubles available for people to collect and write a message on them before hanging them on the tree.

The Oakey Library is open from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Other local townships will also have community Christmas trees for residents to get involved with decorating.
The Men’s Shed has also created a tree for Kingsthorpe which will be at the Village Green.
Baubles can be collected from the Kingsthorpe & District Progress Association Op Shop.
Other locations include:
- front of Goombungee Service Centre;
- Peranga Hall; and
- Quinalow Public Hall.
These communities can pick up baubles from the Goombungee Library, the Peranga Hall and the Quinalow Library and Quinalow Progress Assn.
