Gardens of the Downs

On Wednesday, April 30th, Gardens of the Downs is taking two buses to see four of the large gardens situated along the Macintyre River at Goondiwindi.

The first garden belongs to Shona McIntosh and has a long clipped hedge of bougainvillea Bees Nees framing both sides of the driveway and this will be in full bloom.

There is also a long hedge of pruned ornamental olive, which attracts a lot of interest.

A glorious ornamental grape, pink knockout roses and a riverside retreat
all add to the atmosphere of this large, park-like garden.

Number two garden is that of Kerry Corish, with a lake containing geese, ducks and herons.

The river frames both the house and the garden and there is a rainforest and many roses of varied and different types.

The third garden is the Mackay garden, nestled among established trees.

There is a woodworking studio that has been converted into a guest house, and a huge fire-pit entertaining area.

A three-metre high eleagnus hedge has been used to screen the neighbouring block.

Number four garden is that of Yoland Woods at Bookaberry, stretching along the banks of the Macintyre River.

A huge pair of Canary Island date palms stand at the entrance to a large collection of matured trees.

At either end of the tennis court, a mix of David Austin and hybrid tea roses bring a touch of elegance.

Our buses will pick up at Clifford Gardens at 7am, Pittsworth Centenary Park at 7.30am and the Millmerran Pool area at 8am.

We will travel to Goondiwindi down the Gore Highway and after seeing the gardens we will stop in Gundy’s main street for a short walk throughout the shops.

Then we will come home through Yelarbon and Inglewood and see the highly decorative silos in Yelarbon.

We will drop-off at the three stops on the way home.

The cost for the day, including lunch, will be $80.

To book for the trip phone 0427 932 033 between 9am and midday, five days a week.

We should have a great day!
