Galloping to success
Greenmount’s Clear Mountain Fairview Stud has plenty to be excited about following the success of Worthy Cause, Champion First Season Sire at the 2020-21 Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland Association (TBQA) awards.
What particularly impressed the TBQA judges, who have described Worthy Cause as a “promising young sire,” is his strike rate of 71.4 per cent.
Worthy Cause (right) has had five winners from seven starts for a total earning of $413,850.
His top performer was Hinged with five wins and earnings of $268,350.
Hinged won the 2YO QTIS Performer award with $125,700 in QTIS bonus prize money.
Stud Master of Clear Mountain Fairview Bob Frappell said he was thrilled with the “precocious” Worthy Cause’s success.
“It was really good. Because he was a sire no one expected it,” Mr Frappell said.
“He is one of the best freshmans in Australia.”
Mr Frappell said as the highest earner and win getter in Queensland, there had been “plenty of interest this year” in breeding Worthy Cause.
“He’s one of the best value mares in the country,” he said.
“We’re looking for as many mares as we can get to him.”
Worthy Cause was destined for success as the offspring of Choisir, winner of the 2003 Ascot Golden Jubilee Stakes, 2003 VRC Lightning Stakes and 2003 King’s Stand Stakes, as well as an inductee in the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.
Besides Hinged, Worthy Cause has had other successful juveniles, including Ain’t She Lovely, a winner over 1100m in Ipswich Turf Club, Follow at Ipswich Turf Club 2YO Plate and Constant Cause and Fire King, both Queensland Thoroughbred Incentive Scheme (QTIS) winners.
Mr Frappell said he has more than pleased with the
investment Clear Mountain Fairview made in Worthy Cause.
“He’s a lovely type of horse with a very good
temperament,” Mr Frappell said.
“He really is a good horse.”
