Framing work underway at Millmerran’s new Multipurpose Health facility

Darling Downs Health hosted a community drop-in session on Monday at the site of the new Millmerran Multipurpose Health facility, where construction is into the framing stage, and on track for completion in March 2025.

Taking a tour of the Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service Facility construction site were Pete Trethewie (Principal Project Manager), James Simpson (Operational Commissioning Lead), Lois and Ben Lindenmayer, Allen and Mary Hunter, and Shirley Gunning.

The new health facility is being built behind the current hospital where the helipad was located.

Helicopters are currently landing at the airfield while construction on the new helipad, to be located at the rear of the new facility, is underway.

Due to its age and increasing maintenance burden, the existing hospital will be demolished upon completion of the new build.

Members of the community were taken on tours of the construction site on Monday, to view the framing work that is currently underway.

The official sod turn took place back in February as work on the helipad demolition began, while construction of the new facility started in mid March.

Principal Project Manager Pete Trethewie said they are on track for completion in March 2025.

Last year, Darling Downs Health completed $2.6 million worth of infrastructure upgrades at
four aged care facilities across the Downs including Millmerran.

The upgrades included a new garden area at Millmerran which has been maintained and will be accessible from the new multipurpose health facility.

“[Millmerran was] one of four,” said Mr Trethewie, about the outdoor infrastructure upgrades.

“So we did here, Oakey, Texas and Inglewood.”

The new healthcare facility is part of the Queensland Government’s  Building Rural and Remote Health Program (BRRHP), dedicated to enhancing healthcare services in regional and remote communities.
