Former Southern Downs MP Lawrence Springborg elected LNP State President
At the state conference of the Queensland Liberal National Party (LNP) last weekend, stalwart and former Member for Southern Downs - the Honorable Lawrence Springborg OAM was elected President of the party.

Mr Springborg was first elected as the National Party MP for Carnarvon in 1989 at the age of 21 – the youngest MP to be elected to the Queensland parliament.
He remained as the Member for Carnarvon until 1992 and then become Member for Warwick from 1992-2001.
For the next 7 years Mr Springborg was the National Party Member for the Southern Downs and when the Nationals and Liberal parties merged he was the LNP Member for Southern Downs from 2008-2017.
During his time in Parliament Mr Springborg was Opposition Leader for three terms.
In 2020 Lawrence Springborg became a Member of the Order of Australia (OAM) for signifi cant service to the Queensland parliament and to the community of the Southern Downs.
Currently Mayor of the Goondiwindi Regional Council The Honorable Lawrence Springborg OAM plans to continue in the role while he is the LNP President.
Statement by Southern Downs MP James Lister - “I am just over the moon to see my mentor and friend Lawrence Springborg elected to be LNP Party President on the weekend. It’s a tremendous boost for our party to have Lawrence to unify and energise us.
“Lawrence was elected by an overwhelming fl ood of grassroots LNP member support, from all over Queensland, because he is a person of outstanding experience and integrity.“Lawrence is the real deal. He’s the founding father of the Liberal National Party in Queensland and he’ll do a terrific job.
“Lawrence and our Parliamentary LNP Leader David Crisafulli will be a great team as we work hard to offer the policies and leadership that Queens-landers are looking for.” Mr Lister said.
