The story is set in the Nile Delta and is a re-telling of a story from her Egyptian father-in-law's childhood.

Madeleine Logan grew up in Clifton and went to school at St Frances De Sales.

Her family, including her parents J. W. (John) and Marcia Logan, owned the grocery store in Clifton for decades on King Street.

Madeleine was a reporter at the Warwick Daily News from 2007-2008.

She and her husband Atef are now based in Egypt where the book was published.

Ms Logan said when Atef first told her this story about his father and his donkey, she thought it was delightful and needed to be written down.

“One thing led to another and we found an amazing Egyptian illustrator Arwa Ali who really captured the Egyptian countryside,” Ms Logan said.

“The book is available in both English and Egyptian Arabic.”

Copies of the paperback book cost $10.99 and can be obtained through Amazon.
