Focus On Farm Photo Competition Is Back

After a year’s break, the competition, organised by the Comaren & Doctors Creek Catchment Landcare, is back, bigger and better than ever.

Competition Coordinator Jean Gundry said the aim of the competition is to showcase the stories of our farming communities on the Darling Downs.

“Every one of us has a reason to celebrate the fact that we live in one of the most productive agricultural regions on the planet,” she said.

“This is an opportunity to shine the spotlight on our region, our farms and farming communities, our lifestyle and how we are caring for our environment.”

The Open and Under 18 categories are open to everyone including visitors to the region.

The only requirement for entries is that the photos must be taken on the Darling Downs.

There are several new categories including “Plant a Seed Grow a Feed”, where the group is hoping to see the amazing work being done by our farmers as well as the end result presented on the plate.

Mrs Gundry notes that the category for Drone images, which portray rural landscapes and farm activities, is becoming increasingly popular and she encourages everyone to enter.

This year the ‘Wildlife on the Downs’ category aims to shine the spotlight on beneficial insects including native bees, wasps, flies, butterflies, lacebugs and dung beetles.

Another new category is ‘Landcare is For Everyone’.

Mrs Gundry said she encourages entrants to submit diverse photos featuring at least one of estimated 200,000 insects in Australia.

The Nicki Laws Landcare Project category theme is ‘Enhancing Habitats on our Patch’.

The Primary School category is open to schools in the Southern Downs, Western Downs and Goondiwindi regions as well as the Toowoomba Region.

“The theme is ‘Insect Investigations’ and it encourages children to explore the relationship between insects and flowering plants.

“Entry is free and there are some great prizes thanks to our generous sponsors.”

All entries close on 4th October 2022.
