Flood recovery road works underway
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) program of flood recovery works in the Darling Downs is underway.
This program will repair damage caused by multiple heavy rainfall events across Southern Queensland between November 2021 and May 2022.
Almost 260 kilometres of state roads will be repaired across the Darling Downs, including works on Toowoomba–Cecil Plains Road, Oakey–Cooyar Road, Bowenville–Norwin Road, Pittsworth–Felton Road, Millmerran–Inglewood Road, Felton–Clifton Road and the Gore Highway.
Works will include pavement repairs, road shoulder repairs, removing silt and debris, embankment erosion repairs, clearing table drains, and culvert and drainage repairs on 27 roads.
Assistance will be provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
The full program of flood recovery works will take place over the coming year.
The Department’s Southern Queensland Regional Director, Bill Lansbury said steps had been taken earlier to enable thoroughfares to be used.
“Temporary repairs were undertaken shortly after the significant rainfall events in 2021-22, to make sure roads were safe and trafficable,” Mr Lansbury said.
“Due to the widespread and severe nature of the damage on state roads, TMR is delivering a significant program of more than 500 repair projects across Queensland.
“Packaging many of these works together helps TMR complete roadworks sooner, which means less construction impacts for road users.”
