Flood of memories at Nobby School
For the many old pupils of Nobby State School who returned to the town recently, many memories were revived as they wandered through the current school mingling with old classmates and met current day students.
Students from as far back as the 1930s were among the large crowd, which was given a warm welcome in a speech by the school’s principal, Tim Youngberry.
Mr Youngberry has been at Nobby State School for 15 years.
David Kucks, Lead Principal with the Department of Education addressed the gathering, passing on the wishes of the Regional Director and the Education Minister.
A highlight of the welcoming speeches was one by the oldest past pupil in attendance, Terrence McGovern, who attended the school in the 1930s.
Mr McGovern later joined the youngest student of the school today, Jacob Nicholson, to cut the large, well-decorated cake.
A roll call of students from each decade revealed the large number of pupils who have passed through the school over the years.
Later in the afternoon, a special tree was planted in the school grounds as a lasting reminder of the 125th anniversary of education in the Nobby district.
Mr Youngberry led guided tours of the current school facilities, which proved to be popular.
Other well supported events on the program were duck races in the school pool and in the evening a bush dance, with music supplied by the locally-based Ridgee Didge Bush Band.
