First Event in Allora Showgrounds New Arena
Saturday February 5th saw the first Event for 2022 at the Allora Showgrounds. It also marked the inaugural use of the ‘Big Shed’.
The ‘Combined Forces Led Steer or Heifer Show’ organised by Neil and Rachel Goetsch of Kalbar, was a small event to start the year. Approximately 50 exhibits from South-east Queensland vied for the Champion crown. Matthew and Ben O’Dywer’s entry, ‘Rambo’, took out the Champion Prize, and ‘Raider’, exhibited by Billy Goetsch, was Reserve Champion. The Competition was held under lights in the new arena and the venue received very favourable reports.
The Allora Boxing Group and relocated Warwick Rose Squash Club are utilizing the Health and Fitness Centre/Pavilion for its intended purpose and are experiencing great support from the local and wider Community.
The next Event will be the Allora Show Society Equestrian Group Dressage Day occ-urring on the 6th March, and the Showgrounds will be the venue for the inaugural ‘Darling Downs Heavy Horse Festival’ scheduled for the 12th and 13th March.
The activities at the Showgrounds are many and varied with a Carriage Driving School booked for the 26th March and a Hack and Dressage weekend on the 9th and 10th April. The long-standing annual Allora Campdraft is to take place from the 15th April, and will see the Showground a hive of activity over three days.
The postponed Allora Show Rodeo and Annual Heritage Weekend are two events that are still very much on this year’s Calendar.
COVID-19 regulations in place for Show Societies on Government-owned land are confusing to say the least, and vaccine mandates are a controversial issue. The Volunteers who make up the Management Committee of the Allora Show Society are obligated to follow the directives of Queensland Health, and are also striving to utilise the Showground to its full potential.
The recent challenges have been formidable, but we look forward to making 2022 a most successful year.
